A Little Tip-Off: Submarines, Poetry, and a Palace First Look
A Little Tip-Off
Four things worth doing with the family this weekend.
WEEKEND OF 11/12TH JULY
Submarines, Poetry, and a Palace First Look
The heatwave breaks on Sunday, but Saturday's still a scorcher, amber heat alert and all. So we've leaned indoors this week: a cool art studio at Tate Modern, a new submarine exhibition at the Horniman, and a first look at Buckingham Palace's just-reopened Picture Gallery. Plus a genuinely good find for the older kids, a teenage poetry showdown at Southbank that's flying well under most people's radar. Four ways to spend it, sorted by age so you can skip straight to yours.

Make Studio: Memory, Tate Modern
A free drop-in art studio where toddlers explore memory through paint, clay and play, indoors and out of the sun while the heat lingers. Open to under-5s, free, Bankside. Ends 22 July.

5 TO 8
Voyage to the Deep, Horniman Museum
Board a life-size Nautilus submarine, come face to face with a giant squid, and hunt for Octonauts clues in this new underwater exhibition. Ages 5-8, child tickets from £6.20, Forest Hill.
Sat 11 & Sun 12 Jul · 10am-5:30pm
9 TO 12
WordCup Showcase Final, Southbank Centre
Seven teams of young poets go head-to-head in a fast, funny spoken-word play-off, the finale of a project that's been touring the country since April. Free, indoor, Southbank Centre, great from age 9 up.
